WordPress 3.1.3

WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. It can be used for a simple blog, or for a large, complex site with many users.

WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. WordPress is fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001.

WordPress is the king of blog systems. It took the crown from Movable Type in 2005. Prior to 2005, Movable Type was the most popular blog system. But Six Apart (the company behind Movable Type) was a for-profit company. And though Six Apart continues to develop Movable Type, the vast majority of bloggers and blog developers have migrated to WordPress, both because of the critical mass and the reality that WordPress’s open source foundation will provide long term reliability.
